The Company
We, the UK’s largest packaging distributor have an exciting opportunity for an experienced internal sales professional to join our team based in Milton Keynes. We are a committed equal opportunities employer that champions ‘dignity in the workplace’. Our focus is to provide customers with fully integrated and innovative packaging solutions, augmented by outstanding customer service. Appointing and nurturing sales talent across our business is key to our continued growth.

The Sales Development Associate Role
This role sits within our fastest growing online trading division whereby you will report into the Sales Development Manager. Your focus will be centered on proactive customer engagement. Taking inbound calls and handling customer enquiries, this will include you speaking to existing trading accounts, new customers, lapsed accounts and down spenders. There will also be an element of outbound calling, whereby sales leads are provided by our marketing team and website, for you to make contact and try to convert enquiries into new customer accounts.  You will adapt your approach to mirror customer requirements, ensure opportunities are identified and targets are achieved as well as delivering a first-class level of customer service. Around half of your working week shall typically be spent on the phone, the other around administration/process and CRM system updates. Your remit will ultimately be to strengthen those customer relationships and encourage an uplift in their online spending with Macfarlane. Hours of work are 9am-5:00pm (with half hour lunch) Monday-Friday. The role is taking a blended working approach, whereby you will work part time in the office and part time at home.

Sales Development Associate Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain positive customer relations within your assigned portfolio/area
  • Achieve direct sales revenue and weekly call targets
  • Work closely with other members of the sales team and customer service team to provide an excellent customer experience and product delivery
  • Follow up all new business enquiries and opportunities, developing these into sales prospects for immediate sales conversion or leads for external field sales personnel
Do you have the correct profile?
We welcome your application if you have previous customer service experience, enjoy speaking to people and are interested in an office-based role. It is important that you have a reasonable proficiency in MS Office. You will like the idea of speaking on the phone every day and for much of the week and not be deterred by working to targets and persuading customers to make purchases. Any previous sales experience would also be advantageous but isn’t essential as we find it is often all about your natural charisma and having an outgoing personality (full training will also be provided). As mentioned, this is initially a temporary contract to cover an existing team member’s absence (approx. 12 months) but there is a good chance this opportunity could lead to a permanent appointment for the right person.
