The Company
Macfarlane Group PLC is the UK’s largest packaging distributor and we are seeking to appoint an experienced Continuous Improvement Manager to join our established manufacturing team in Grantham. Our specialist manufacturing division designs and produces bespoke protective packaging solutions which are designed exclusively for customers in safeguarding their products in transit. Our customers are UK wide and span a number of key verticals including: Aerospace, Defence, Electronics, Industrial and Medical.
 


Continuous Improvement Manager Role  
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading & executing
our Continuous Improvement activities across the Grantham Manufacturing business; targeting the key areas of Quality, Cost and Delivery. You shall be asked to engage, educate and inspire our teams to deliver best practice that yields tangible and repeatable results that benefit all stakeholder groups. As a key member of the Site Management Team you will be accountable for delivering both our Strategic, Financial & Operational objectives.
 


Continuous Improvement Manager Key Duties
Whilst not exhaustive, below are the key duties involved within this role…
  • To monitor & improve our Productivity & Efficiencies across our 4 x Manufacturing Cells – reducing set times, increasing output and enhancing our value added activities.
  • Execute an effective and transparent waste reduction program across all core raw materials (Wood, Corrugate and Foam)
  • Deputise for the site Operations Manager when required.
  • Work in collaboration with our QESH, Production & Logistics management teams to ensure we comply and continually evolve our working practices to keep pace with the ever-changing needs of our business.
  • Maintain good awareness of Health & Safety; ensuring our policies and practises are deployed consistently to safeguard our employees and external parties.
  • Utilising your understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques (Lean, 5s, SMED, TQM, PPM etc.) to ensure cost-effective methods are used across all departments
  • Using effective and concise communication skills to develop good working relationships at all levels (both internal and external parties).
  • Ensuring optimised use of human and capital resources
  • Supporting training programmes for all Direct Labour personnel
 

Do you have the correct profile?
In order to apply you must be an experienced continuous improvement manager used to working within a bespoke manufacturing environment. A background or some time spent working within packaging manufacturing would be distinctly advantageous. You will certainly be well versed in a wide range of lean manufacturing techniques (Lean, 5s, SMED, TQM, PPM etc.) and have experience of implementing these with positive outcomes in your previous role(s), demonstrating the ability to deliver performance and results through people.  A formal qualification within lean manufacturing techniques would be favourable. You will bring exceptional leadership skills and customer focus to this role.
